"We'd have most of what we predicted of the conquest of space, if we hadn't ignored parasite control."
- Larry Niven

Life-Brew
A non-alcoholic beverage, but similar to wine.

Among the liquids we had a new sort of milk somewhat resembling koumiss, but with a daintier taste and a delicious fragrance; also sparkling colored water and a compound called “Life-brew,” which was as stimulating as wine, but more sustaining, and nonalcoholic. Alcoholic drinks, I learned, had gone out completely; not by law, but by commonsense, and were used only in medicine or for the punishment of criminals, in rare cases. There was nothing that malefactors dreaded more than a sentence to a month or two of rum, whisky, brandy, or even champagne diet.

Science fiction fans might also like to try alcohol reliever from Bad Medicine (1956) by Robert Shockley or perhaps powdered alcohol from The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge (1970) by Harry Harrison.
