"We were essentially being shell-shocked by rapid change. That was one of the things you needed science-fiction writers for back in the Sixties, because we could cope with the future."
- Peter Watts

Asteroid Claim Law
The legal steps required in claiming an asteroid

Now that we're going out and landing on asteroids, we might as well start getting the space laws established.

The law of filing on newly discovered asteroids was definite. Two steps were required. First, setting up the proper monuments on the asteroid. Second, filing the requisite affidavits in the Claims Office of Jurisdiction.

Four metal stakes were driven deep into the stone... Then a photograving of claim to title was etched deep within the area bounded by the stakes.

From Jurisdiction, by Nat Schachner.
