"There was a time when one old eccentric guy with a notebook could do something important to science. Now even the resources of a major university are often not enough."
- Jerry Pournelle

Autonomic Food-Processing System
Technology allows food to be prepared untouched by human hands.

The preparation of meals by robots strikes some people as convenient; for others, it seems to be an inhuman intrusion into the simplest of human acts - preparing life-giving food for loved ones.

"...The food's actually prepared by humans."

"Humans? As compared with what?"

"Autonomic food-processing systems," Tito murmured. "Or don't you ever eat in autoprep restaurants?" After all, the Sands were wealthy; possibly they normally enjoyed human-prepared foods. "Personally, I can't stand autopreps. The food is always so predictable..."
