Photo-Voltaic Robes  
  Outerwear made from material that absorbs sunlight and outputs electricity.  

This is a fairly recent reference to this idea - are there any older references?

Snow removed the pistol from its holster in his dust robes and checked the charge reading. As usual, it was nearly full. The bright sunlight of Vatch acting on the photo-votaic material of his robes kept the weapon constantly powered up through the socket in the holster.
