There was a flurry of usage in the early 1950's; here's another example from Strange Compulsion published just a few months later, also by Farmer:
“It could be adrenalin shock,” said Mark Gaulers.
“Nothing extee?” said Harry Harazi. “Man, that’s good."
She handed him a slip of paper on which the machine had punched a code.
