Penetron  
  A synthetic substance that is opaque unless penetrated by infra-red.  

Within the orbed confines of the impermite dome were scattered blockhouses, cubed barracks built of penetron, the synthetic translucent substance that could be rendered transparent only by the infra-red beam of the dictator. Thus no smallest act of his subjects escaped his scrutiny; an invaluable deterrent to conspiracies.
