Helios Modular Touch Screen Wall Lights
These little Helios modular touch screen lights look futuristic to me; science fiction fans might be excused for thinking that they are familiar.
How do the modules attach to the wall?
The hexagon modules can be attached to the wall by either using the sticky pads provided (10 per pack) or using the holes on the back of each module to hook onto nails. (check instructions for more information).
How do they turn on/off?
Each module has a proximity sensor which detects the distance of your body, as you come into contact with the module it will toggle on/off. You can use any body part or other conductive materials!
How are the modules powered?
Each module connects via magnetic edges, the power transfers through each module through metal pins protruding from each edge. (They are not battery powered).
(Via Helios.)
I was strongly reminded of the illumium tiles from Richard Morgan's 2003 novel Altered Carbon:
The walls and ceiling bore an irregular spacing of illuminum tiles whose half-life was clearly almost up, and their feeble radiance had the sole effect of shoveling the gloom into the center of the room.
Isaac Asimov fans might also be thinking of the wall-light from his 1952 classic Foundation and Empire.
