Augmented Reality Book Covers Reveal The Inner Book
This little do-it-yourself augmented reality project makes for more drama in your visits to the bookstore.
For this particular Augmented Reality book cover I created, I wanted to give the illusion of looking into the cover itself, as if the book cover is a window or portal into the artwork.I achieved this by separating the artwork and text into many individual layers, that I placed in receding layers of 3D depth, in a 3D program on the computer. And made sure everything outside the borders of the book is excluded, to give it the 'portal' effect.
So when people experience the Augmented Reality effect, things closer to the camera appear closer, and those further back appear further away from the camera.”
I was sure that I had seen this idea expressed before, and found it in Darwin's Children, a 2003 novel by Greg Bear:
