Rotating House in Bosnia
Vojin Kusic wanted to create a house that satisfied the needs of his wonderful wife, who had very particular views about, well, what views were available from which rooms of their house.
“Once again, this time on the ground floor, I had to start tearing down some walls, at which point, to not wait for her to change her mind again, I decided to build a new, rotating house so that she can spin it as she pleases,” Kusic said.
Kusic, who did not have a chance to go to college, designed and built his rotating house by himself, using electric motors and the wheels of an old military transport vehicle.
“Now, our front door also rotates, so if she spots unwanted guests heading our way, she can spin the house and make them turn away,” he joked.
I always thought this was a clever idea; I first encountered it when reading Frank Herbert's 1972 novel
, which doesn't stint on imagination.
"Lewis was just telling me how our place is very much like his home on Chargon," Polly said.
"Old-fashioned, but we like it that way," Bullone said. "I don't like the modern trend in architecture. Too mechanical. Give me an old-fashioned tetragon on a central pivot every time."
