Update 12-Jan-2005: If you missed the first one, there is now a second one available! Find it on eBay. Thanks to an anonymous reader for this tip!
I couldn't resist checking out this working Star Trek communicator for sale on eBay.
(From Bluetooth Star Trek Communicator)
Here's how it [these devices all work basically the same way] works; it connects to your cellphone via Bluetooth like any other hands-free device. Leave the cellphone in your pocket, and just pull out your Communicator like it was the real deal. It even has a control that plays the authentic communicator sound as you pick up your call. The bad news: it's a one-of-a-kind prototype unit.
If you are interested in other science-fictional communication devices, take a look at the audio relay from Robert Heinlein's The Puppetmasters or the distrans from Frank Herbert's Dune.
Found this item on Gizmodo.
