Zimmer Frame-based Nursing Home Positioning System

Residents of the Betuweland nursing center in the Dutch village Bemmel have been trying out a new navigation system -installed in their Zimmer Frame walkers.

(Zimmer frame)

The inventors of the device, from Arnhem-Nijmegen University, designed it to help elderly users with memory problems to avoid getting lost in their own care homes.

The navigation system makes use of wireless internet sources from within the nursing home. GPS devices don't work as well indoors.

The device has a very simple interface. Click on one of five buttons for common destinations, and then just follow the arrow.

From Over the hill - and then which way? Satnav comes to the Zimmer Frame via MedGadget.
