"I was wholly addicted to watching Kojack, for as long as it was on television."
- Frederik Pohl

Schrön Loop
Small data storage device; a USB chip that stores terabytes.

This item is a data storage device, capable of storing all of the information in a planetary datasphere in just a very small (cubic inch) space. This item reminds me of the small USB data devices that plug into PCs for quick download and storage - this is basically how the device is used in the novel.

The Schrön loop was tiny, no larger than my thumbnail, and very expensive. It held countless field-bubble memories, each capable of holding near infinite bits of information. Schrön loops could not be accessed by the biological carrier and thus were used for courier purposes. A man or woman could carry AIs or complete planetary dataspheres in a Schrön loop.
Technovelgy from Hyperion, by Dan Simmons.
Published by Doubleday in 1989

In the novel, the device is implanted in one of the characters as a storage device; the character cannot access the data.

Compare to the Welton cube from Time Enough For Love (1973) by Robert Heinlein.
