Lexar 8Gb Compact Flash Memory Doubles The Record
Lexar's new 8Gb Professional Series CompactFlash card doubles the old record of 4Gb (gigabytes) for the largest compact flash memory size. The new card should be available in May (note: that's May of 2004!) for $4,500.

You may be thinking "that's a lot of MP3s" - but this card is primarily aimed at high end photographers who need to store high resolution images of 8 megabytes and more. The card delivers a 40X speed-rating, signifying a minimum sustained write speed capability of 6MB/s, needed by photographers.
SF fans may recall the Schrön Loop memory storage device, from Dan Simmons 1991 novel Hyperion; it had somewhat greater capacity (and could be implanted in a person):
