Hyperion by Dan Simmons:
Science Fiction Inventions, Technology and Ideas

Hyperion is an extraordinary story, told in the manner of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales: a series of stories by individuals who have had experiences with the Shrike or with the Time Tombs. The Time Tombs are strange structures on the planet Hyperion that do not seem to be moving in the same time stream as the rest of us. The Shrike is a mysterious figure who strikes at the human beings who settle Hyperion.

Dan Simmons' novel Hyperion won the Hugo award for Best Science Fiction Novel. He has also won the World Fantasy award for his first novel Song of Kali. He lives in Colorado, along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Select an invention:
