Comments on Dyson Intelligent Vacuum Cleaner Is Self-Diagnosing
James Dyson has added a new feature to his vacuum cleaners - they can tell service personnel exactly what the problem is. All you need to do is "phone home" - that is, call the service center. (Read
the complete story)
"Back in the late 80's to early 90's I worked wtih Tandem NON-Stop computers which were guaranteed not to fail every component was duplicated and if one died the system called the service company"
(Dave Wilhem 2/26/2005 5:26:02 PM) |
"AIRBUS jets have such reduntant computer systems that shut down a computer unit that gives different data than other units(all with same input data). So the minority opinion(data) gets cut. Such "voting" is very rare, because the units are very reliable by themselves. Such event would mandate an unscheduled landing.

Light bulbs might be the easiest components for predicting/calculating their time of failure.
First, street light departments computers could track individual lightbulbs, calculate tear and inform changers 24 hours before failure."
