As far as I know, this is the first use of this increasingly useful word.

The first use of the word "web" for a data network, as far as I know, is in a 1954 Philip K. Dick story, Souvenir - see the entry for web (data network).
Compare also to the data-net from The Shockwave Rider (1975), by John Brunner.
