"There's a poetry in the materials we use to construct our world of artifacts; it speaks of our long history as a technological species."
- William Gibson

Living Grass Carpet
An indoor area covered with grass, in the manner of a carpet.

What a luxurious idea! Did it require special lights? And what do you say to the lawn care service when they arrive at your house? How will they fit that 48" swath lawn mower through your front door?

The taxi dropped them on the roof and they went down to his flat. It was old-fashioned, its one luxury a live grass lawn in the living room.

Jill stopped, slipped off her shoes, stepped barefooted into the living room and wiggled her toes among the cool green blades. She sighed. "My, that feels good. My feet have hurt ever since I entered training."

Presumably, if you had the right kind of grass, you could have parties and spill anything you wanted and not have to clean up! All food for the grass. (Take a look at the entry for live carpet, from Queen of Angels, by Greg Bear.)

Of course, given the fact that all of our carpets are pretty much full of little mites that eat flakes of skin, hair, and so forth - you might say we all have living carpets anyway.
