The Fremen, the nomadic natives of Dune, used a wide range of devices to make their environment usable. Dune was a planet with very little moisture; no open water ran across the surface of the planet. Conserving moisture was essential to survival.

Men hurried to fasten a doorseal behind them. Glowglobes showed a broad, dome-ceilinged space with a raised ledge on one side and a passage leading off from it. |
