"Science fiction writers, I am sorry to say, really do not know anything. We can't talk about science, because our knowledge of it is limited and unofficial, and usually our fiction is dreadful."
- Philip K. Dick

Atomics
  The field of nuclear energy.

Early use in sf, but the word was used in science journals at least twenty years earlier.

"Jenkins, what's all this Isotope R business, anyway?"

"R's one of the big maybe problems of atomics. Purely theoretical, and none's been made yet—it's either impossible or can't be done in small control batches, safe for testing. That's the trouble, as I said; nobody knows anything about it, except that—if it can exist—it'll break down in a fairly short time into Mahler's Isotope. You've heard of that?"

Technovelgy from Nerves, by Lester del Rey.

The word was also used as part of a business name in John W. Campbell, Jr.'s 1932 story Electronic Siege:

Presently they took off. The slim, graceful ship rose smoothly into the atmosphere, angling slightly up, then driving forward as the gentle hum of mighty Farrel Atomics poured their millions of horsepower into the McKinley space-drive discs.
