Samsung Transparent OLED Laptop
Samsung is moving right along with its transparent OLED laptop displays. Take a look at the following video demonstrating this 14 inch transparent OLED screen.

It even offers 40 percent transparency when it's turned off, which I suppose gives you a great view of ... the keyboard? I'm not really sure why I would want a laptop with a transparent screen. I admit that the first application that occurred to me was that if I had had one while I was an undergraduate, I could have looked at girls walking by without having to look up from what I was reading.
My first encounter with a transparent display came in H.G. Wells' extraordinary 1936 film Things to Come. As you see in the screen capture below, the technologically advanced society of the future makes use of widescreen transparent flat panel technology.

After this early start, transparent screens are in tremendous vogue in science fiction movies; Minority Report and Avatar come to mind.
