"Science and science fiction, how do you even distinguish the two?"
- Jerry Pournelle

Palimpscreen
A thin piece of digital paper.

...sketching symbol after symbol out on palimpscreens and into terminal notebooks. But most of the symbols were so completely abstract...

Ha was not the only one who was working full-tilt: Evrim, too, was at their own end of the table, surrounded by palimpscreen notes and three terminals, freeze-framing data, tilting their angular head at the screens, drawing out the patterns with a stylus in those long-fingered hands.

From The Mountain in the Sea, by Ray Naylor.

A clever portmanteau word from "palimpsest" and "computer screen". A paplimpsest is a very old technology, referring to a piece of animal skin used as a page in a book, which has the ink scraped off for reuse.

Compare to mediatron from The Diamond Age (1995) by Neal Stephenson.
