"I kind of take it for granted that our great-grandchildren will regard us as a sort of precursor species. That they won't think of us as human and if we could see them, we probably wouldn't think of them as human either."
- William Gibson

Dime Disk
A very small data storage medium.

I just liked the phrase; maybe I'm a sucker for alliteration. When this book was written, storage discs the size of a dime were still a dream.

"What have you got for us?"

I showed them my dime disk. "Took me less than a week...We may have lost some of the military vocations over the centuries. We'll have to reinvent them. This is just a first cut."

Anton set a dime disk next to mine, and a small projector. "Mine's nearly full..."

We watched stills and flat motion pictures of weapons and tools in action.

Now, of course, you can get compact flash hard disks; I think the actual size of the disk is between a dime and a quarter. IBM makes compact flash drives that hold up to one gigabyte.

Toshiba makes a "nickel-sized" hard drive - read the Science Fiction in the News Story Toshiba 0.85 Inch Diameter Hard Drive for more info.
