"I suspect that religion is a necessary evil in the childhood of our particular species. And that's one of the interesting things about contact with other intelligences: we could see what role, if any, religion plays in their development."
- Arthur C. Clarke

Boob Cube
Device for showing three-dimensional news broadcasts.

The name used here is, of course, a slang expression.

"There was a message from the Angel's Pencil."

...The Angel's Pencil had departed twenty years ago for ... was it Epsilon Eridani? "Come on, kid, it'll be in the boob cubes before you have quite finished speaking. Anything from deep space is public property."

This expression is a future version of the expression "boob tube", a pejorative reference to the typical television device of the twentieth century. TVs were based on cathode ray tube technology; most of the content was aimed at people of low intelligence.
