This is an early use of this idea, which finally came to fruition in real science in the form of medicines like Boniva, a biophosphonate drug used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, which marks a loss of bone mineral density and an increased risk of fracture. Physicians have known about osteoporosis since the early 19th century, but it wasn't until the 1960's that an effective treatment was found.
