![]() This is an early idea to work with a problem that is a concern today to space scientists. Not so much meteors, but other junk in orbit around Earth.
Obviously, this method depends on high ferrous metal (or other magnetic metal) content of incoming meteors. Unfortunately, not all meteors have a high metal content.
Technically, "meteor" refers more to the streak of light seen at night when a solid, natural body streaks into the atmosphere. The object itself is called a meteoroid; any part that survives to reach the ground is called a meteorite. When a bright meteor is seen to explode, it is called a bolide.
