Comments on Singularity Summit At Stanford
Must-attend summit at Stanford on the technological Singularity bearing down on all of us like a runaway train. (Read
the complete story)
"Maybe their metaforas need some tweaking. In black hole, first there is event horizon, then at the center, singularity. And the latter is the place where current physics breaks down and won't tell us what there is. That is the original metafora-formulation for technological singularity. Maybe "the big move" or "the big AI-discontinuity" or "the opaque limit" or "the post-history"(vs-prehistory and historical period) would be better expressions.
"the end of human era" or "human era will be ended" is bad formulation, because it sounds like "the end of the world". If it is so just because of my bad english, it does not matter much, because there are many people with even worse english skill.

"And don't forget John W. Campbell's short story The Machine - one thinking computer that ran an entire civilization, and decided that leaving might be the best thing to do. "
