Comments on Gravitational Corridors Like Space-Lanes
Ah, to ply the space-lanes! This old sfnal dream might come true yet. (Read
the complete story)
|"This isn't particularly new, I've seen it in news articles dating back to 2005
The draw back is it (like the Hohmann) reduces energy but drastically increases transit time. A Hohmann can travel from Earth orbit to Lunar orbit in a few days, the gravitational corridores takes two years. "

|"Winchell, thanks. I also like the term Interplanetary Transport Network."
(Bill Christensen 9/15/2009 2:08:03 PM)
|"I did that... once."
(Eli Porter 9/17/2009 10:56:33 PM)
|"Like Winchell said, these corridors are extremely minimum energy transits, even more so than proper Hohmann transfers, but the time it takes is on the order of years. So this isn't very conducive to human space flight. However for probes, taking one of these corridors can dramatically increase its operational lifetime."
