Comments on Virtual Retinal Displays Get All Geordi With It
Scientists have been hard at work; the Human Interface Technology Laboratory is continuing work on virtual retinal displays - and building in a very Star Trek look while they're at it. (Read the complete story)

"I think all this tecnologyy is verry cooll. Keep up the good work!"

"oh ye harbingers of "legal" commercial foolery ... argh. :: but: Yay for Dr. Furness of U. Wash. !"

"Wicked! Jody would be proud!"

"The Star Trek character is named Geordi La Forge, who was named after a deceased Star Trek fan in his honor. Geordi was played by LeVar Burton. Geordi weared the V.I.S.O.R. (Visual Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement) that feeds information directly to his brain, he weared it because he was blind since birth, though in later Star Trek stories (post the movie "Star Trek: Generations"), he replaced his V.I.S.O.R. with devices that are implanted directly on his eyes, probably for extra coolness in Special Effects and probably also because past traumatic experiences. The V.I.S.O.R. was inspired by the hair band of the prop maker's girlfriend."

"If Geordi were blind from birth--well, there would go his visual cortex."
