| "I can clearly remember reading a story in the '80s, set in the far far future, wherein birds and mammals all could talk, probably in a language that was genetically encoded and standardized across the species ... I think it was a coming of age story, might have involved a railway and a mountain ... but I have no idea who wrote it or what it was called. The most specific recollection is a bit of the odd grammar of the future-talk, e.g. declarative sentences would start with the word 'oh' and end with 'ho,' there were 'ah ... ha' and 'eh ... he' pairs too maybe.
