Comments on Mice Now With Human Language Gene
Sfnal or Disneyesque? (Read
the complete story)
"I can clearly remember reading a story in the '80s, set in the far far future, wherein birds and mammals all could talk, probably in a language that was genetically encoded and standardized across the species ... I think it was a coming of age story, might have involved a railway and a mountain ... but I have no idea who wrote it or what it was called. The most specific recollection is a bit of the odd grammar of the future-talk, e.g. declarative sentences would start with the word 'oh' and end with 'ho,' there were 'ah ... ha' and 'eh ... he' pairs too maybe. Funny how you could recognize something instantly, but have far too little specific information to ever rediscover it except by accident."

"Obviously the next step should be beef cattle. So they can sell themselves like they did at "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" in the Hitchhikers trilogy. "

"Don't forget "Flowers For Algernon" by Daniel Keyes, made into the movie "Charly""
(Peter Jacobs 6/2/2009 3:10:03 PM) |
"Good additional references; I should have remembered Flowers for Algernon particularly. For some reason I confuse this topic just a little bit with robotic mice - a completely different topic."
