Comments on Atheon Temple To Science Open For Worship Soon
Interesting art project that presents a scientific alternative to worship; fans of Neal Stephenson will hear echoes of his new book 'Anathem.' (Read
the complete story)
| "Here's another example. Older sf fans probably recall the Scientific People from Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination; descendants of space travelers holed up in the sargasso asteroid, they offer comically ignorant worship of science:
"You are the first to arrive alive in fifty years. You are a puissant man. Arrival of the fittest is the doctrine of Holy Darwin. Most scientific."
"Quant suff.!" the crowd bellowed.

"Love it!
It's pretty clear that some form of religious belief isn't going to go away any time soon, given the way it's encoded in our genes. The best people can do if they don't want to play the traditional way, is to invent 'secular' religions such as these. I have no doubt that in the coming centuries science will become the new religion to an extent of which early scifi writers only dreamed."

"Wow that's intresting but weird kinda scares me long as they don't kill in the name of science like most other religions do"

| "No church is complete without representations of its saints in stained glass.
This stained glass piece depicting Linus Torvalds, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates was seen at a Chelsea gallery tour by flickr user tefjr77. Note also the BalmerCherub."
