Comments on Cityware - Open Source Urban Surveillance With Bluetooth
File this under interesting technology that is widely available and I'd never heard of; this project sits right on the line between modern urban planning and setting up a police state. (Read the complete story)

"I've been preaching this evil for a few years now. Every time I come across some poor innocent soul that mentions privacy rights, I usually respond with something like "The government knows more about you than you know about yourself. It started with Social Security numbers. The best thing you can do is simply keep your nose clean, and stay out of trouble with the Feds." For a bit I flip-flopped about the wonders of WiFi and Bluetooth. They're both so well embedded into society the point is moot now. The most you can do to prevent tracking is simply turn off Bluetooth, or turn off the phone altogether."
