Comments on Fracture Putty For Compound Fractures - DARPA
Clifford Simak thought about this almost fifty years ago; it's about time DARPA tries to make it real. (Read the complete story)

"A company named Norian developed a calcium based bone paste derived from sea shells that can repair and set a fractured bone which will harden and bear a load within hours. The CEO once came and spoke at a bioethics seminar at UCSC. Sounds like the same stuff. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-19430354.html FDA: http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/pdf/P970010b.pdf"
(Zac Hunter 6/2/2008 4:19:11 PM)
"That's pretty cool stuff; here's a quick quote:
'A new calcium phosphate bone cement, called the Norian skeletal repair system, quickly hardens to form a material similar to actual bone and can be used in the treatment of cancellous bone defects or fractures. Many bone replacement materials weaken over time or do not integrate adequately with real bone but the calcium phosphate bone cement is a stronger material and closely resembles real bone properties.'
Via Calcium phosphate bone cement - the Norian skeletal repair system in orthopedic surgery."
