Comments on GlowRing: Light Without Power
The GlowRing will glow for up to ten years in funky colors. GlowRings do not require any external power source (and no internal source - a battery - either!) (Read the complete story)

"In James Blish's SPOCK MUST DIE, shuttlecraft are equipped with "glow-pups". These are set in the ceiling, and provide light when there is no power. They are filled with "ethon" gas, which glows due to being excited by a tiny radioactive source."
(Nyrath 5/12/2004 6:16:51 AM)
"Yes, quite cool, but I'm having trouble finding someone in the US that sells them."
(RedFez 5/12/2004 9:18:03 AM)
"You won't find anyone in the US - dispite safety, the tritium ("special gas") makes it illegal."
( 5/12/2004 3:37:01 PM)
"These are tiny versions of tritium safety lights, eg. those powerless "EXIT" signs. The vendor won't ship them out of UK because of tritium-related regulations (despite the very tiny amount present in the device), but maybe you could get somebody who can buy it for you and then send it by normal person-to-person post and hope nobody will notice and seize it. It works for overseas pharmacies."
(Shaddack 5/13/2004 11:36:28 AM)
"And the Brits wonder why thier teeth are falling out of their heads. ;-)"
(Durge 5/18/2004 2:01:43 PM)
"Are these available in Canada?"
( 12/28/2004 8:26:40 AM)
"You can get them in the US through the carribean on eBay. Warning though...the first time I dropped mine, the glass tube inside broke, and within a day it was totally dead. These things have absolutely no shock protection, and keyrings do frequently get dropped."
