Honda ASIMO Robots Work Together To Serve

Honda's Asimo robots took some important developmental steps this week. All in the name of serving humanity better.

(Honda ASIMO serves humanity - for now)

The ASIMO robots are now able to get their own power, seeking the closest charging bay. Autonomous battery charging - for some reason, this seems like a more sinister behavior when perpetrated by bipedal robots, rather than, say, Roombas.

ASIMO can see an oncoming person through its eye camera, ansd then judges his inertia, guesses his speed and path, then either changes course to steer clear, or simply takes a step back.

Finally, ASIMO robots constantly shares relevant data between each other, and a survey of which robot is closest to the most pressing task, and what his battery life status is, let's them "decide" which one is best suited to go in and do the job.

(Middle NS5 Robot Gets A Download)

In the 2004 movie I, Robot, the most advanced robots, the NS5's, had a special feature: additional software and instructions could be downloaded wirelessly to individual robots. NS5's receiving a download show a red glow in the chest cavity.

Also, I watched a video of ASIMO serving coffee, and was very surprised and impressed by how quickly and decisively it moved around, even with people and other robots present. Just when you started to think about it as being "like a person" it backs up to a recharging station.
