Britain To Build Spaceport, First In Europe
Britain will be building a brand-new spaceport; it's the first one in Europe. It should be operational by 2018. Ambitious? You bet. It will offer both commercial travel into space and ultra-fast international flights.

The government has supported the scheme as part of its aims to push Britain as a world leader in commercial space travel. "I want Britain to lead the way in commercial spaceflight," said Robert Goodwill, the UK's aviation minster. "Establishing a spaceport will ensure we are at the forefront of this exciting new technology." The government will aim to attract the likes of SpaceX and Virgin Galactic to launch from the facility once it's closer to completion.
So, the first spaceport in Britain. The first use of the word "spaceport" occurred in The Birth of a New Republic, published in 1930 in Amazing Stories Quarterly in 1930 by M. Breuer and Jack Williamson:
The space-ports at the three great cities, were, of course, occupied or blockaded by the Tellurian fleets; and Doane was obliged to make his bases of operations the lonely craters that once had been pirate strongholds.
