Philips Rollable Display (Active-Matrix)
Philips says it is producing prototypes of ultra-thin, large-area, rollable displays - check these specs:
These remarkable displays are flexible, and can be rolled up and put away when not needed.
The displays combine an active-matrix polymer with a reflective electronic ink front plane, on a very thin sheet of plastic.
Science fiction fans will recall Larry Niven's poster television from his 1976 novel World Out Of Time. Philips claims that their aim is to create true "electronic paper"; see the description of smart paper from Neal Stephenson's 1995 novel The Diamond Age. I'm also told that in the movie The Red Planet, the crew unrolls a digital map to find out where they are. It would be handy to need only one "map!" (Thanks to an anonymous reader for this one.)
