John Jacob Astor IV:
Science Fiction Technology and Ideas
John Jacob Astor IV (1864-1912) was the great-grandson of John Jacob Astor (wealthiest man in the U.S. in the 1830's from fur trading and real estate). Besides dabbling in science fiction, he also patented several inventions, including a vibratory disintegrator used to produce gas from peat moss and a pneumatic road-improver. He died on the RMS Titanic.
