R7 Ridable Robot
The R7, a four-legged robot you can ride on, has been introduced by Robo3, a Korean company. And it's cheap, for a robotic horse - just $5,250. (Update: I'm told by a - hopefully - knowledgeable reader that this price is off by an order of magnitude; it's really $52,000.)

In his excellent 1995 novel The Diamond Age, science fiction writer Neal Stephenson writes about a chevaline, a robotic horse used by police:
A horse, or something built around the same general plan, was coming down the street at a hard gallop. Its hooves did not make the pocking noise of iron horseshoes. Bud realized it was a chevaline - a four-legged robot thingy.

An earlier reference can be found in a great 1969 fantasy novel, The Warlock In Spite Of Himself, written by Christopher Stasheff. In the novel, he introduces FESS, a robotic horse.
