Sea-Eye Underwater Broadband Wireless Network
Sea-Eye Underwater is an underwater broadband wireless communication system designed for use by corporations, research groups and the military.
The main purpose of the system is to transmit real-time video images underwater. This objective is accomplished by using a specially developed acoustic modem.
An acoustic modem converts digital data into particular sounds that can be transmitted underwater. These signals are then received by a second acoustic modem and are converted back into digital data. Sea-Eye Ltd. is hoping that this new patented design will enable a whole new generation of devices for underwater communication:
- acoustic modem for real time telemetry
- wireless underwater TV system
- world's first Autonomous Remotely Operated Vehicle with real-time command control and TV transmission.
Underwater acoustic modems are already produced by several companies, and have been in use for a variety of undersea projects. For example, MIT has been working on an underwater wireless communication system that would allow multiple AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) to work together. NeMO Net (New Millennium Observatory Network) uses acoustic modems to transmit data from monitoring instruments anchored to the seafloor near the underwater Axial Volcano to surface buoys.
