The Ring Clock IS Heinlein's Finger Watch
One of my favorite pieces of technovelgy is the finger watch, which I first encountered in Robert Heinlein's excellent 1951 novel The Puppet Masters - still a great read, by the way.
I think that the Ring Clock is an excellent implantation of this science-fictional idea:
"Seventeen hours" - The Old Man glanced at his finger watch and added - "and twenty-three minutes ago an unidentified space ship landed near Grinnell, Iowa."

However, back to science fiction. In the intervening years I encountered an earlier use (by six months!) by HB Fyfe, in Astounding Fiction:
Crayn glanced at his finger watch as his aide fastened the cloak he had brought hurriedly after him. It was three-forty-seven, Galactic Time.
Heinlein fans can console themselves with the fact that there are 175 science fiction inventions by Robert Heinlein to look through...
