Rosemont Hotel Dubai Has Lobby Rainforest

The new Rosemont hotel planned for Dubai will have a feature not often seen - a no-holds-barred rainforest in the lobby.

(Rosemont Dubai hotel with rainforest)

One upcoming attraction sure to leave us in awe and marvel is a 7,000 square-meter (over 75,000 square-feet) rainforest to be built inside the future Rosemont Hotel and Residences Dubai owned by Curio – A Collection by Hilton.

Lead architect and managing partner of ZAS Architects Dubai, DJ Armin, promises for a realistic rainforest feeling, without all of the soggy clothing. “Technological features include an advanced sensory rain system that creates a 360-degree experience, simulating the sensation of being surrounded by rainfall without actually getting wet.” The high-tech system will recycle condensed water to create the humidity inherent in the natural environment of a rainforest.

I wonder if the Dubai architects had noticed that the great arcologies in Paolo Bacigalupi's 2015 novel The Water Knife created entire ecosystems within their buildings. In the novel, the actual ecosystems of the American West were disappearing because the environment was starting to look that that of, well, Dubai.

Braxton ducked under ferns and stumbled past banyan climbing vines, following the slow rise of the trail as it wound around the cooling bore. He shoved through groups of tourists posing for selfies before the braided waterfalls and hanging gardens that spilled down the arcology's levels...

Angel leaned against the rail, enjoying the view. Sunlight filtered down from above, dappling bamboo and rain trees, illuminating tropical birds and casting pocket mirror flashes on mossy koi ponds.

Via futurism.
