VirtualGreen Putting Simulator Like Brin's Needle-Gym
The VirtualGreen system is an amazing putting simulator that lets a single surface mimic an infinite number of putting greens - and it's done in real life, not virtual reality.

Virtual Green was born in the Midwest out of pure necessity. Between the snow and frigid temperatures, golf simulators are one of the only ways to keep up on your game year-round.With the intense imagery and accuracy of simulators today, driving a ball down the ‘course’ can be an amazing feeling. One thing simulators have forgotten about is a realistic putting experience, until now.
The ultimate goal of Virtual Green is to enhance the golf simulation experience to truly create the feeling of standing on the putting green.
Thousands of pinpoints shift and mold the course design.
VirtualGreen claims to have patented this innovation.
Fans of sf writer David Brin, on the other hand, probably recall the needle-gym floor (also called an accu-terrain floor) from his 1994 short story Natulife:
Cursing I tore off the helmet, gashing my cheek on the strap. The body suit still formed a matrix of other-world sensations -- hot savannah wind and gritty moccasins. But abruptly my eyes saw a tiny, off-white chamber, its coarse floor of needles mimicking a steep hillside. Sense-conflict made me sway in confusion as I dove for the door.
