Samsung 19 Inch Transparent AMOLED Display
Samsung is showing off their transparent 19 inch AMOLED display; every year they get bigger. The device shown in the picture below is a "production prototype".

The transparent AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screen has a resolution of 960 x 540, with a brightness of 200 cd/m2 (candela per square meter); this is a typical number for an ordinary liquid crystal display monitor.
As you see in the screen capture below from Wells' prophetic 1936 film Things to Come, the technologically advanced society of the future makes use of widescreen transparent flat panel technology (see more pictures).
