Star Trek Laser Tissue Bonding Video
Laser tissue bonding like on Star Trek? I wrote about it last fall (see Laser Welding Skin Closure Like Star Trek); now, take a look at this video with the developer of the technique, Professor Abrahim Katzir of Tel Aviv University.

Prof. Katzir set out to find the right temperature for optimal wound healing, and to perfect a device that could maintain this temperature. He is the first to apply the carbon dioxide laser, coupled to optical fibers, for wound closure under a tight temperature control. His innovation is in the use of unique optical fibers made from silver halide developed at Tel Aviv University.
This method is much less likely to tear the skin and offers a more watertight seal than traditional suturing methods. Experiments performed on real patients show that the technique works as advertised; patients healed faster and with less scarring.
As Professor Katzir says in the video, it's just like Star Trek.
