Biometric Deadbolt Lock Like A Palm Lock
The Biolock Deadbolt lock is a biometric identification system that is very similar in function to the palm lock from Frank Herbert's classic science fiction novel Dune. Except, of course, that you can actually go out and buy a Biolock Deadbolt, which uses your fingerprint to identify you.

The Biolock Deadbolt can memorize the fingerprints of as many as fifty people; a simple three-step process does the job. The device is quick, deciding between friend and foe in less than a second. You'll also note that there is an emergency key override (we don't quite trust biometric authentication yet, do we?)
And, best of all, it doesn't even look high tech from the outside; the fingerprint scanner is hidden.
Frank Herbert uses a palm lock to secure entry to a room containing the most precious substance on Arrakis - water.
Surely not a palm lock, she told herself. A palm lock must be keyed to one individual's hand shape and palm lines. But it looked like a palm lock.
