Baja Beach Club Implants VeriChip In Customers
The Baja Beach Club in Barcelona, Spain is the first business to use the VeriChip System to grant customers access to VIP areas and provide an easy payment option.
Club patrons can have a rice grain-sized VeriChip RFID device implanted in their hand or arm. Once the unique 10-digit identification number in the VeriChip device is entered into the system, the patron can pay for drinks with a wave of the hand. Access to special VIP sections of the club can also be obtained without resorting to badges or other means of identification.
Science fiction readers are aware that the use of these chips as credit card devices was proposed by Neal Stephenson in his 1995 novel The Diamond Age; see implanted credit card.
