Elios Giant Insect Rescue Robot Design
The Elios RescueBot is a design by Marcos Nolan; while not a real robot (yet!), it offers possible design solutions to the problems faced by roboticists who want to offer rescue robot alternatives.
It has armor covering all of the joints to protect the robot from falling debris. Sensors allow it to find people inside damaged buildings.

The undercarriage of the robot lets it pick up a traumatized human survivor, who can then be carried to the nearest hospital or emergency vehicle.

This cool design reminds me somewhat of the Jumping Spider Tank Robot Tachikoma from the Ghost in the Shell anime series.

Elios' ability to grab fallen victims and take them to safety reminds me of the firefighter rescue robot recently demonstrated in Tokyo.

DARPA's trauma pod battlefield medical treatment system also offers similar services - but unlike Marcus Nolan, DARPA has awarded a $12 million contract for development.
