RAFFE Helps Remote Mobile Investigator Gather Fingerprints
The Pedsco RMI (Remote Mobile Investigator) robot, used for remote handling of explosive devices and other hazardous materials, now has the ability to gather fingerprints. This is good news for the human beings who ordinarily perform this dangerous task.

(From Pedsco.)
The device, called the Robot Accessory for Fuming Fingerprint Evidence (RAFFE), was developed at the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary. The device has a heating element, cartridge of Superglue and a short pipe. The heated glue produces fumes that react to the oils and moisture in the fingerprints.
The Pedsco RMI includes many features, one of which is a high resolution camera that can capture pictures of the prints. We think R. Daneel Olivaw, the robot detective from Isaac Asimov's Caves of Steel, would approve.
