Comments on Air Warrior Microclimatic Cooling Garments Tested By Army
The Army is testing personal cooling vests for soldiers in Iraq; Philip K. Dick suggested them in the sixties. (Read the complete story)

"Working as a security guard...I wear body armour for my own personal protection....in summer it can get a bit ripe.... i've expermented with my own refrigeation system...using nail varnish remover as a refidgerant...the draw back is having a compressor unit that has to be fitted outside of the vast because when the liquid condeses itheats up... plus for military use it's not ideal to have a pressurised container holding highly flamable liquid!"

"I am nearing the end of my deployment to Iraq. As a UH 60L pilot we have been using the microclimate cooling vest for nearly a year in one of the most adverse hot weather environments in the world. This item was indispensable to the mission as it kept our mind on the task at hand rather than the physical stressors caused by a hot weather environment. Although it felt like a wet T Shirt the entire flight, it was a cold wet T Shirt and that is what mattered. "

"Astronauts have been wearing this type of garment under their spacesuits since the beginning of space flight. It's called an LCG (Liquid Cooling Garment). http://history.nasa.gov/spacesuits.pdf I believe I saw it featured in a NASA publication, "Spinoff 1977", being applied to medical patients who had difficulty regulating body temperature. It's called the "Cool Suit". http://www.elmscoalition.org/why_elms/LSEarthBene.pdf Global Effects, Inc. has been using the CoolSuit to keep actors cool under heavy costumes since "Predator" (1987). http://www.globaleffects.com/C_e03_frameset.html?Page=rentalE01_e03_E_cools.html Racers use it as well."
