Comments on BookTrack Adds Sound To Books
I really don't think this is a very good idea. Readers? (Read
the complete story)
"One of the reasons I love to read is that my imagination can supply the background sounds and effects... I find extraneous sounds distracting."
(Dewtey 9/2/2011 5:49:23 AM) |
"I agree, adding sound to books is like those annoying internet ads that don't shut up. I can see sound effects for audio books, but most people perfer silence when reading. "
(Gatomon41 9/2/2011 6:20:01 AM) |
"It's not quite the same as a pure-text story, but the webcomic Nahast has music that you can download and play, that's supposed to be used as background music for certain portions of the comic. I thought it was very well done, and definitely added to the experience, but then again it was for a comic, not just a book, and it was just music not other sound effects."

"For those who wish to check it out, you'll recieve an error page when you do because the site has been changed. Follow the link to the "old extras page" and you'll be able to find the music."

"Check out the BookTracker site."
(Bill Christensen 9/2/2011 6:22:45 PM) |
"The nosoundplease option ought to perdure as long as most of the more obdurate geezers.
It could be better when automatic "talking" interpretative software - or incipient AI - comes along.
Better yet when the illustration at the top becomes the artistic visualization of the dynamiic interpretation of the text. Rendered by the AI according to your preferences in style, actors, etc., - accompanying your eyes and brainwaves via galvanic skin response. Or simple headband. Or multipurpose "health" implant.
Just do it right. Without ads. That would be a civilization-killer. But, that's what renegade techs are for, after all."
(Holdtheanions 9/4/2011 5:56:36 PM) |
"I can see ambient noise for setting a mood. This really fits better with audiobooks than e-readers, though. The last time I had theme music with a book, it played a chime when it was time to turn the page."
